Strength Training for Weight Loss

The typical consensus is that cardiovascular activity along with a stringent diet are the only methods to achieve weight loss. On the contrary, utilizing a weightlifting routine will improve your metabolism and help you shed unwanted weight. Many people do not think of strength training for weight loss. Instead, they often perform only cardio exercises to burn fat and calories.Among the saddest sights I see at the gym would be the people who are there day-after-day and are not getting the results they are seeking.

Typically, if I was to stereotype these people, I would describe them invariably as women in their 40’s just walking on the treadmill. They have the belief that if they do enough cardio exercises they will eventually lose weight and finally achieve the body they are seeking. But unfortunately, this is not the case. This lack of results is not from a lack of effort or a lack of willpower…it is from not understanding how your body works and not doing exercises in the right way to permanently lose weight.

Weight loss Strength Training

Mike Mahler, certified strength coach, relies on a rest pause method for strength training. According to him "with rest pause training you utilize heavy training loads with super short breaks. The mixture hits the muscles hard to cause increases in size and strength." Unique programs such as this have always been around; however, the important thing to successful strength training is to find a program which works for you, individually. Also, it is critical that you do not overtrain---this will only distance you from your goals.

Simply put, to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you're taking in. There are two ways of doing this. One, you could drastically cut the amount of calories you are taking in, without adding exercise. Two, you are able to slightly reduce the amount of calories you are ingesting while adding an exercise routine to your schedule. Option two is more beneficial and much healthier. Adding weightlifting for your routine will immediately boost your metabolism and keep it burning after your exercise.
