Decorating Kids Playroom Design Ideas

Your child's toys have a way of multiplying and taking over your house. If you have a room in your home to dedicate as the child's playroom count yourself lucky. But, don't discount the playroom as constant messy room in your home where the door needs to be kept shut. Using the proper pieces and some thoughtful decor the playroom could be a functioning and attractive room in your home.

Color

Start with a neutral, washable paint around the walls and save the bold colors for that furniture and accessories. This allows you to change the room to satisfy your family's needs as time pass without having to do a complete makeover. Take your children's interests into account when deciding which colors to make use of. A little princess can surround herself in rosy pink and lavender, with touches of glitter here and there. A red, black and white color scheme is a great choice for a young man who runs towards the window when he hears a siren and it is never without his police badge and fireman's hat.

Furniture and Accessories

Keep your furniture soft and low down. A long, low set of shelves is safer than the usual tall unit, and it's easier for the children to use. If you do use a tall furniture piece, be sure to anchor it towards the wall to keep it from tipping over and injuring someone. If using blinds, install brackets high in wall to keep the cords safely away from small children.

A cushy sofa and some beanbag chairs provide comfortable seating, along with a small table with a few kid-sized chairs provides a place to color or build with Legos. A sizable area rug defines a place to sit down and play with cars and blocks; think about a rug with a city scene and roads printed onto it.

Storage

The playroom will probably be filled with toys, art supplies, dress-up clothes, as well as other things that need a place to go away. This room will need plenty of storage. A favorite playroom piece can be a cubbyhole shelf that holds baskets or bins. If the children aren’t able to read yet, fasten a picture of what belongs inside the basket to the front from this so everyone will know where their toys belong. When there is a closet in your playroom attempt to add additional shelving to it or rearranging it making it function better. Having ample storage baskets and bins is paramount to keeping a neat playroom.

Art

Besides a chalkboard wall, make use of the playroom walls to display your children’s artwork. Consider framing a few of their best work but keep areas for display that is easy to switch out. Hang a clothesline style wire or rope across one wall and fix the art with clothes pins. The playroom is yet another great room to display fun candid photos of your kids. Blow up some of your chosen silly pictures and have them printed on canvas. A sizable and colorful map is yet another great decorative wall hanging for just about any playroom for both older and youngsters. The more they see the map the higher they will learn and remember it. A vibrant print out of the alphabet is useful for young children for the same reason.
