5 Amazing Facts About Babies

Pregnancy is a memorable time in a woman’s life, but it’s the end result that’s even more incredible. The gift of a child is remarkable and a newborn baby is one of life’s most perfect creations. Their teeny tiny little hands and their downy heads beg to be kissed and just looking at those little faces will have you weeping with joy.

A couple of months ago we highlighted the most amazing facts about pregnancy (some of these will really blow your mind!) and I wanted to do the same but for babies. For example. Babies are some of the most wonderful things in the world, aren’t they? At first they seem so helpless, so incapable of taking care of themselves. What many parents may not realize is that it’s all an act. Babies know exactly what they’re doing. Here are some lesser-known facts about babies for you to enjoy.

  • When babies are first born they have no kneecaps, just cartilage, which eventually develops into kneecaps after the first six months of their lives.
  • Around 80% of babies are born with a birth mark of some kind.
  • When a baby is first born they cannot taste salt as they are only accustomed to drinking milk. After four months once they have developed a bit more they will be able to taste salt.
  • The heaviest babies are born in the month of May and weigh on average around 200 grams more than babies that are born in any other months in the year.
  • The heaviest baby ever born on record weighed 22 pounds and eight ounces, yikes!
