New Year’s Eve is a celebration to usher in the new year and is typically celebrated with a party and a countdown of the last seconds of the year. It is one of the most celebrated events in the year, and one where everyone, irrespective of religion, cast, or creed, joins in the celebrations. Different places have different themes for parties, and while there are no hard and fast rules to determine the best destinations, some of these stand out from the rest. These parties have become such an important celebration, that come New Year’s Destinations, there are literally hundreds of parties to choose from, in almost every city of the world.
Rügen, Germany
This Baltic sea island is home to the legendary ‘Beach Chair New Year’s Eve’, where locals sit on the beach in chairs and watch the fireworks over the sea, along the coast, and on the piers. The NYE motto is ‘Celebrate like a Viking’ so you’ll find bonfires, some medieval markets and artists booths, rustic ambiance in the restaurants, exhibition fights, and even Viking ships. Finish your night off with an ice bath in the Baltic Sea the next morning. For something a little less rustic, check out the 1920s party at Seebrucke Ostseebad resort.
The Canary Islands, Spain
One of the rare warm places in the winter, the Canary Islands boast a 20-degree temperature during New Year’s. The island holds a city-wide black tie affair, but for those looking for something more low-key, the beaches host open air bars (called chiringuitos), complete with cocktails and DJs.
Weymouth, UK
This harbor town on the Dorset coast is home to one of the biggest costume dress-up parties in all of the UK. Most of the pubs and restaurants coordinate to host all night parties with live music, drinks, and food. Party goers gather in Hope Square for the countdown before continuing on their party crawl, in costume of course.
New York
Site of one of the world’s most iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations, New York is the place to be to start a new year with a party. Hundreds of millions of people watch the Times Square celebration on television, but watching at home just doesn’t compare to experiencing the countdown to the iconic ball drop at midnight live in New York.
Sydney, Australia
The dazzling light parade in Sydney Harbor is worth the price of travel alone when it comes to the celebrations in the down under for the New Year. From the street parties, fireworks and mazing dose of culture, we can’t imagine a place that provides everything you are looking for in a vacation plus the fun of the New Year!
