Healthy day should always include a good-for-you breakfast. It boosts metabolism, fuels you through the morning, and inspires an all-around healthy lifestyle. This year we cooked up a lot of healthy breakfast recipes both sweet and savory for long brunches and those times we found ourselves rushing out the door. Take a look at some of the favorites that will keep you full well beyond the end of Winter.
It's better for your health (and your weight) to eat breakfast than to skip it. And it's definitely better to eat a healthy breakfast, high in fibers and nutrients, than one full of refined grains, sugar, salt, and/or saturated fat. But what if you're fresh out of healthy breakfast ideas.
Egg Muffins
These breakfast egg muffins are an easy and tasty breakfast idea that is portable and able to be eaten on the go. It packs a powerful nutritional punch and tastes delicious. It can be adjusted to fit your child’s tastes by adding whichever vegetables your child likes. You can make these by the dozen and just reheat for breakfast each day, making breakfast faster and easier than a bowl of cereal.
Kashi Golean Crunch
Actually, any whole-grain, high-fiber cereal is a good choice, but I mention this particular one because it’s a favorite of mine. It has a high amount of protein and fiber, low sugar. Add low-fat milk or soy milk (which has 1/3 the saturated fat of 1% milk), perhaps some berries if you like.
Apple Breakfast Sandwich
The sandwich to a whole new level by nixing basic bread for a crunchy tart twist. Only clean ingredients here, including your favorite nut butter, chia seeds and, of course, an apple healthy breakfast. Feel free to get creative here we're thinking Greek yogurt could make for a nice addition (and a protein punch).
Pumpkin Breakfast Parfait
Berry parfaits have become so passé, so out with the old and in with the new: This recipe calls for protein-packed greek yogurt and fiber-filled pumpkin puree, along with a few extra niceties, like crushed gingersnaps and chopped pecans. Bonus: It'll keep you cool on those wild-card hot September days.
Wellness Bars
These energy bars are also portable and kids love them, but they do contain a fair amount of sugars from the dates, so they should be paired with a hardboiled egg or some other protein. These are simple to make, and with only a few natural ingredients, they beat the heck out of Pop Tarts.
